Today December 1st, 2006 is World AIDS Day
Over 40 million people are living with HIV/AIDS today in the world. 25 million of those people are located in Africa.
5,500 people die every day in Africa from HIV/AIDS
900 of those had lived in the country of South Africa.
…many of those enter into eternity not knowing the love of Jesus Christ.
Swaziland is still the country with the highest rate of HIV/AIDS infection at an estimated 47% of its total population.
More than 15 million children around the world have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. Each one of these children has a name. Each one needs hope.
HIV/AIDS is destroying whole communities, whole families, and whole generations of people. If the disease continues on its current progression, by 2050 there will be no more Swaziland. Everyone will have died.
The Church, the worldwide Body of Jesus Christ, must respond to this pandemic. We must pray, fast, give, send, go and help those that are suffering. As Jesus’ ambassadors in this world we should be the first responders to this crisis. Sadly, we have been slow to act.
As the HIV/AIDS comes into the world’s focus today, I encourage you all to become more involved in response to this disaster. Please choose to become more aware of what is happening around the world. I ask that you would pray a dangerous prayer today. Ask our Father in heaven to break your heart for the people suffering from HIV/AIDS around the world. Then ask Him “Father how should I live in response to this?” Then be obedient to do what He tells you to. If you do this the world will change.
Glad you are back in Swazi, I’m sure you are elated! It was great to have you in Colorado and at the banquet. That’s a crazy time for us, but I hope you took something away of value.
Do you have a source for the 47% stat of HIV infection in Swazi? The highest documented source I can find is 44% from a Swazi newspaper. I need this for a book I’m writing. Thanks!
